On Sunday at Sonoma Raceway Richard Childress said Ryan Newman is the number 1 candidate for the #29 car in 2014.
Over the past month there has been an endless supply of rumors spreading around the NASCAR garage that Ryan Newman, who currently drives the #39 Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing, will be moving into the #29 at Richard Childress Racing in 2014. This past Sunday at Sonoma Raceway RCR team owner Richard Childress added some truth to the rumors.
On Sunday Richard Childress mentioned that Ryan Newman is the current top candidate for the #29 car when asked about the position to fill.
Ryan Newman currently is sitting on a contract with Stewart-Haas Racing that expires at the end of the year. In 2014 Kevin Harvick will be leaving Richard Childress Racing (leaving an empty position available) and will be moving to Stewart-Haas Racing, Ryan’s current team.
Although Kevin Harvick will be heading over to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014 it is expected that he will be driving a new car, the #4 (read more here) instead of taking an existing Stewart-Haas Racing number (the #39 of Newman).
Even though there is a lot of information pointing to Ryan Newman moving over to Richard Childress Racing in 2014 there is no information pointing to it being a “done deal”. More information is expected to come out over the next few weeks.
